In Pentimenti, thread is used to bind letters into a knot, a literal notation of attempts at ‘stringing together sentences’. This piece is comprised of about 900 stained, then printed and charred paper characters, bound together with top-stitch thread. Pentimenti translates as “of many minds”, evoking the nexus through which streams of unrelated thoughts meet, then become entangled,  within the piece. Pentimenti is also a term used for historical drawings whereby an artist’s change of decision has remained intact on the paper, the trace invoking a notion of time or memory recorded.
